FOUR children from Years 5 and 6 at Horrabridge Primary School recently took part in a maths competition held at Tavistock College and were crowned winners.
Amelia Collings and Rhys Cunningham from Year 6 and Kitty Harland and Alex Grenardo from Year 5 represented Horrabridge in the competition alongside eight other schools.
The competition involved four rounds of 20 to 30 minutes each — a primary kangaroo round involving a selection of questions, a logic round, speed round and a murder mystery round. After three rounds Horrabridge Primary was in first place.
Rhys and Amelia said: ‘At the end of the four rounds the scores were added up and they announced the places. When they called out the position we found we were eighth, but this turned out to be a huge mistake as they had forgotten to add 100 points to our score! We actually came first for the second year in a row.
‘Everyone in the team received a scientific calculator, a medal and certificates. Thank you to all the adults who allowed us to take part.’
