TAVISTOCK College celebrated harvest festival recently with a special Year 7 assembly where produce grown by students at the college was presented along with a magnificent harvest loaf.

The Rev Sue Tucker gave a short talk to students about how the idea of harvest festival developed and how important the harvest is to all people, especially local farmers after the difficult growing season of 2016.

Tony Welsh, former head of Tremayne House, described the work of the Tavistock Foodbank and thanked all those students, staff and parents who had donated items — so much in fact, his car was filled with goods to take back to the Foodbank.

The fresh produce was raffled the same day at the college, with tickets sold by the Young Producers’ Co-operative in aid of their chosen charities of Farm Africa and Margaret Green Animal Rescue.

The lucky winner, Mrs Greener, took home plenty of fresh vegetables, jam, bread and eggs.
