Underhill Group Plymouth & West Devon Combination Senior Division Buckland MC 2 Tavistock 2nds 3 WITH both teams dangerously close to the relegation zone and desperate for points, the first 45 minutes were strangely pedestrian. Despite the ball bouncing off the crossbar at either end from long rang shots neither team managed to mount a convincing attack. The second half was different altogether and the first few minutes saw Tavistock pile on the pressure with sustained attacks. But this left them vulnerable to the counter-attack, which Buckland seized upon with gusto and despite Tavistock?s efforts it was 1-0 to the home side four minutes into the half. Twelve minutes later, with another fine break from deep inside their own half, Buckland sliced the Tavistock defence in two and increase their lead with an unstoppable shot on goal. Tavistock continued to battle in an effort to get something from the game and a number of darting runs down the left wing from Ben Palmer created confusion in the Buckland defence to allow Neil Talliss to pull one back. Five minutes from the whistle it appeared the three points belonged to the home side, but the tenacity of Tavistock paid off with Paul Cowling threading the ball through a crowded Buckland defence to balance the score. With two minutes left Tavistock were awarded a free-kick just inside the Buckland half. A well flighted ball found Cowling, who seriously tested the keeper, and with Andy Bacon on hand to run the fumbled save into the net it was 3-2 to Tavistock and no time left for Buckland to reply.
