TAVISTOCK's Dolvin Road Cemetery, closed due to health and safety fears, is likely to be re-opened to the public within six weeks. The cemetery has been closed since before Christmas, after a void opened up beneath one of the graves and there were fears that further subsidence could cause a danger to cemetery visitors. Members of the town council's properties committee were last week told that a £1,100 survey had now been undertaken with geotechnical consultants in an effort to determine the condition of the ground in the cemetery. Works superintendent Wayne Southall told members that, fortunately, paths within the cemetery did not appear to have any voids beneath them. Work would be undertaken to make the grass paths more identifiable prior to the opening of the cemetery. Two areas were now due to be excavated and if voids were discovered, they would be backfilled. Mr Southall said: 'Hopefully, within the next four to five weeks the cemetery will be re-opened.'
