KELLY College Pool is urging residents of Tavistock to get their swimming costumes and trunks on and make a splash to help raise £2-million for cancer charities as part of the national BT Swimathon event.
Kelly Pool is one of more than 500 swimming pools across the UK to take part in this year's BT Swimathon from March 19-25. With more than 40,000 people estimated to take part nationwide it is set to be the biggest ever swim marathon in Europe.
Kelly College Pool, Parkwood Road, Tavistock is putting on three exclusive BT Swimathon sessions for local swimmers during the course of the week and every penny raised at Kelly Pool will help a family of cancer charities — Macmillan Cancer Relief, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Wendy Dalton of Kelly Pool said: 'BT Swimathon is a fantastic event and is something that anyone of any age can take part in. It is also a great opportunity to get into shape after all the excesses of Christmas!'
Entering BT Swimathon 2001 couldn't be easier — all you have to do is log onto the BT Swimathon website: http://www.btswimathon.com">www.btswimathon.com or call the freefone hotline: 0800 731 7316 and sign up for one of the three sessions that Kelly Pool is putting on as part of the BT Swimathon week. Alternatively simply pick up an entry form from the pool.
Participants set themselves a challenge to swim either 1,500m, 2,500m or 5,000m. This can be done individually or as part of a team of up to five people. Participants then get friends and colleagues to pledge sponsorship money to see them complete their challenge and every penny raised is for this year's fight against cancer.
