DEVON Aid-Korogwe had a stand at the recent Okehampton Rotary May Fair where they were able to share information and photographs about the work the charity has been carrying out in the Korogwe District in Tanzania. The charity raises money to try to help provide clean water and solve some of the horrendous water problems in the district ? their stall also contained fundraising items. Many of the children were very interested and two primary school children won treasure hunt prizes. Congratulations go to Martha from Chagford, young grandaughter of John Woodman from Abbey Rise, Okehampton, and to young Rhys Aven who lives in Throwleigh. A well for Mfunte village in Korogwe is soon to be installed following an evening last month at Buckland House. Until now Mfunte women have had to dig holes in the dried up river bed to climb in to get water ? when the river has been full they have had to try to avoid the crocodiles. Roger and Christine Cleverdon entertained a delighted gathering to songs by Flanders and Swann and a fantastic £3,000 was raised. Thanks were expressed to all who had made the evening so successful. On Saturday, July 15, Devon Aid-Korogwe will be holding a jazz evening with a barbecue by kind invitation of Simon and Eileen Peters at Domons, Bratton Clovelly.
