THE newly formed Hatherleigh Youth Band recently performed their first concerts in front of two packed halls at South Zeal and Hatherleigh. The band was set up last October and already has 25 members who had been rehearsing weekly in preparation for their inaugural performance. The band?s smart uniforms were funded by a donation from the Manor House Hotel. Another local business, the hair studio in Hatherleigh, has also done its bit to help, with donations from the staff and customers going towards the purchase of musical scores. ?It costs a huge amount to set up and run a band,? said band spokesperson Greg Morgan. ?We do our best, but these donations make all the difference. It helps local young people learn to play music together in a band and enjoy a healthy hobby which they can continue to do well in to their retirement. ?We are so grateful to these local businesses for their help.? The way the training band is gaining momentum should ensure a bright future for Hatherleigh Silver Band.
