A MEMORIAL service to celebrate the life of well-known West Devon resident and former publican George Langton was held at St Paul?s Church in Yelverton on Tuesday. Mr Langton died suddenly last Tuesday, aged 81, at his home in Princetown. He was born in Plymouth and brought up at The Rock Hotel in Yelverton. After a period in the army, Mr Langton joined the family business and became ?mein host? at The Rock ? a popular figure in the village for very many years who held positions with Yelverton Cricket Club and the bowling club. A devoted father to his six children, Mr Langton was a keen sailor and walker, who adored the moors around his beloved home at Torgate, where he lived for 51 years. St Paul?s was packed with friends and family for the memorial service to a much-respected man whose family has been part of the Yelverton community since 1988.
