TWO young swimmers did Tavistock proud last weekend when they scooped an amazing 19 medals between them at the Disability Sport England National Junior Championships in Sheffield.

David Hill, 14, of Kelly College, entered ten events and won every single one of them ? nine in new British junior record times for his category of disability.

David, who has one shortened arm, won the most outstanding swimmer of the meet award for his incredible achievement.

Robin Brew, director of swimming at Kelly College, said: ?He did fantastically well. The writing really must be on the wall now ? he should be at Athens for the paralympics, which is brilliant for Tavistock.?

David?s next challenge is the European trials in two weeks time ? if successful, he will compete for Great Britain in the European championships later this year.

And Jan Langton, of Yelverton, a student at Tavistock College, entered nine individual events and came away with a medal in every one.

Jan, who has cerebral palsy, won four gold medals, four silver and one bronze ? she also won a gold and silver medal for the part she played in the relay teams. In winning her backstroke 50metre gold medal, she also broke the British junior record.

Jan?s mum Helen said: ?She?s so thrilled, she?s done really, really well and David did brilliantly ? to have two national swimmers of such a high calibre in Tavistock is wonderful.?

Helen said Jan, who is sponsored by Meadowlands and the Devonshire Club, is also on target to secure a coveted place with the British team at the paralympics.

?It?s still looking positive,? said Helen.

Jan is now looking forward to the open national competition this June.
