Okehampton 1st XV 36 Dartmouth 1st XV 13 AFTER last week?s slip in the cup the Okes got their league campaign on track with a convincing final score against a team two places below in the league at the start. Okehampton started well, scoring through Danny Carey, after good ball retention from the whole side, converted by Andy Brimmacombe. The next score came from a well worked move with Ali Mason peeling from the back of a scrum, popping the ball to Dave Bickle who showed good hands to put Dave Watts in at the corner. For the last 20 minutes of the first half Dartmouth attacked down the slope, securing two penalties. The second half saw Okehampton on the attack only for a pass to be intercepted and run in under the posts to give the visiting side the lead. This spurred the Okes into action with a counter attack from their own half, Harry Bushin running well, putting Watts in for his second, having chipped the ball over the cover defence. With the Dartmouth pack tiring the Okes took control, scoring further tries through Bruce Griffiths, Andy Brimmacombe and Tom Powell, Brimmacombe converting two. This week sees the Okes travel to second from bottom Ilfracombe with the view to consolidating their good start in the league. l For more rugby reports, see page 53.
