Jewson South Western League
Tavistock 4
Truro City 3
TAVISTOCK got off to the perfect start and took the lead in the third minute when Danny McTighe volleyed home from six yards after new signing Dean Tongue's shot came back off a post.
The other new signings got in on the act with Lee Cansfield seeing Carveth tip over a goalbound effort and Tony Cusack going close. Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds came to the Lambs' rescue after a mistake by Lee Beer let in the Truro attack and he came out to save well at the feet of an attacker.
With ten minutes of the half remaining the Lambs increased their lead. From a corner Craig Hodge headed back across goal, Carveth could only parry the ball away and Cusack hit the ball back low into the area where it hit defender Cain to deflect into the visitors' net.
The Lambs went further ahead on 43 minutes, Mark Wall's through-ball sent McTighe away but he was tugged back as he raced into the area. Cusack converted from the penalty spot to put the Lambs firmly in control.
The Lambs' first half supremacy was quickly undone with Andrews heading home from a free kick after Hodge had fouled on the touch-line in the 49th minute.
Cusack volleyed over after a good run from Tongue then both keepers did well before the visitors got another goal back. Chris Kiely was adjudged to have fouled on the touch-line. As the free kick was taken the referee's whistle blew. Wall was penalised for holding but the drama was to continue. Meeds saved the penalty only to be penalised again for coming off his line. The kick was retaken and Wherry made no mistake.
It seemed everything was going the way of the visitors and within two minutes they drew level with Miller driving in low after cutting in from the left.
Tavistock's luck seemed to desert them when substitute Darren Cliffe's close range header was saved. Then Cansfield created space in the area only to see his shot cannon off the crossbar but the ball was retrieved by Wall who found Hodge and from fully 30 yards smashed the ball past a helpless Carveth.
Disappointed in allowing a three-goal lead to disappear but in the end happy with the result was the general view from Langsford Park
