WHEN Tavistock town councillors meet representatives of the Showmen's Guild to consider rents at Goose Fair they may also consider reducing from a whole week to a weekend the period of fairground at the Bedford and the Wharf car parks.
The reduced revenue from rents indicates declining interest in fairground attractions. This when there is a noticeable increase in the normal use of the car parks.
The loss of convenience to car owners and loss of business in shops and offices resulting from the week-long withdrawal of so many parking spaces should be balanced against the revenue from fairground rents. The results, I suggest, fall heavily in favour of the motorist and the town's business community.
