Devon senior cup
South Zeal Utd 2
Newtown 3
NEWTON took the lead after seven minutes when one of their mid-fielders beat Reg Wonnacott to the ball and chipped two Zeal defenders who were on the line.
Zeal hit back and after Scott Hooper put Harley Cann through the Zeal striker was unlucky to see his shot hit the bar.
However Zeal equalised after 20 minutes when Redd Cann played Harley in down the right and his pin point cross was met by Scott Hooper who headed in from six yards. Zeal were unlucky not to take the lead on 30 minutes when Darren Gilbert put Scott Hooper through but his shot hit the bar and the post before stopping on the line and the visitors' keeper had only to pick the ball up and clear.
The second half saw Newtown take the lead when a throw in was flicked on leaving the Zeal defence stranded and an easy finish from close range. Zeal equalised soon after with the best goal of the game when Ben Davey put Harley Cann through on the right and his finish from a difficult angle was superb.
As the game went on it looked as if Zeal were more likely to win but five minutes from time a through ball deceived the Zeal defence leaving an easy finish for Newtown who go through to the next round.
