WHITCHURCH Cubs will be in need of a new leader soon when their current Akela steps down at Easter after ten years? service.

Chairman Jeff Hammond said Angela Hoskin has been an asset to the pack and would be a difficult act to follow.

He said: ?Angela has been the back bone of the Whitchurch scout group since joining as a parent helper back in the early 1990s when her own children started out as beavers.?

He said the fact the pack is one of the largest in the district with 25 cubs, is due mainly to Angela?s leadership and enthusiasm.

?Angela will be hard to replace and me and my committee are now looking for someone to take over as soon as possible,? he said.

Angela, who works as a kitchen manager at Whitchurch School, said she had enjoyed her ten years with the cubs but was looking forward to a break.

?I shall particularly miss the camps,? she said. ?My best memory is probably the first camp I went on with them to Wadebridge.

?There were 15,000 of us there, from all across the whole country and it was so nice to see everyone getting on and having an absolutely super time.?

The search is now on for a new leader for the pack, which meets every Tuesday evening at Whitchurch Primary School.

Mr Hammond said: ?It is going to be hard to to find somebody with the necessary qualities and indeed the time and energy to run such a large group, but I am hoping there will be someone locally who has had previous scouting experience who can offer their services.?
