Tavistock Athletic Club held its annual Christmas Handicap race on the final Sunday of the month with 40 club members, family and friends all participating in this popular event.
Conditions on Whitchurch Down where the race was staged were good, although the runners faced a cold northerly wind, mainly on the outward leg of the run.
Founder member of the club Llew Jones was the first runner away and completed the course just inside the hour. This was Llew's 23rd handicap race that he has completed, which is an undisputed club record in itself.
The fastest runners on the day were Tom Gill and his fellow U17 club colleague Tom Lawson who completed the course in excellent times of 22 mins 52 secs and 23 mins respectively.
Adam Holland recorded the next fastest time at 23 mins 10 secs.
The fastest lady on the day was U15 Claire Fraser who finished in an equally impressive time of 27 mins 24 secs which is the unofficial club record for a junior member of the club.
Rebecca Windemer recorded the next fastest ladies' time at 30 mins 13 secs with Sarah Hornby just behind her with a time of 30 mins 21 secs.
However with the handicaps being applied the honours on the day went to junior member of the club Pete Jarman winning the men's trophy who recorded a race time of 32 mins 29 secs with Rebecca Windemer coming in as the first lady and winning the ladies' trophy.
• The club meets at Tavistock College for training every Tuesday and Thursday evening and is looking forward to using the new facilities which will be available at the college early in 2009.
