Palladium Builders East Cornwall division 1 St Newlyn East 1 Tavistock Seconds 2 TAVISTOCK travelled to St Newlyn with only 12 men but this did not damp their confidence and drive as they took the game to the home team. It was Tavistock who made the chances with pot- shots from McPherson and Cowling. It was only time before they took the lead which they did in the 25th minute when a mazy run from Luke McPherson saw him square the ball to Paul Cowling, who hit a 30-yard screamer into the corner of the net. This forced St Newlyn to play up a gear and put pressure on Tavistock's back four, but the experience of Hajiani, Parnoski and the goalkeeper absorbed the home attack to keep the lead at half time. In the second half the visitors started well and the game developed into a midfield battle with great fighting qualites and heart, especially from Tavistock's Luke McPherson and Brett Chadwick helping their team to come out on top. A Tavistock attack saw Jamie Martin play a through ball to Adam McPherson, who rounded the home keeper to wrap the game up for the visitors. Newlyn did hit back and were unlucky when an offside decision with the ball in the net went against them. However, they got their deserved reward in the 90th minute. In the five minutes of injury time, great work from Tavistock's Andy Bacon, Paul Mellor and Matt Allen kept out any further Saints attack. l Tavistock Seconds managers Mick Pipper and Karl Gatcum urged supporters to come to Langsford Park on Saturday for the top of the table clash against Bere Alston, kick-off 2.30pm.
