A PRIZE recognising establishments for their high quality food at affordable prices has been awarded to The Cornish Arms in Tavistock.

After only 18 months since it opened to the public after a refurbishment and a change in ownership, The Cornish Arms can add the coveted Bib Gourmand, alongside its award as Top 50 Gastro Pubs 2013.

As well as Michelin stars this year's Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2015 sees 26 new Bib Gourmands. The award recognises establishments offering good food at affordable prices — the limit being £28 for three courses.

John Hooker, chef proprietor at The Cornish Arms, said: 'Only being open 18 months and being awarded a Bib Gourmand has totally exceeded our expectations and puts us on the map.

'This is thanks to the team past and present and everyone's time, effort and commitment.'

Editor of the Michelin guide Rebecca Burr said: 'The Bib Gourmand awards reflect the continuing trend for competitively priced, less structured and more flexible dining.'
