A LAMERTON couple have returned from a six day adventure to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and raised £6,453 for St Luke's Hospice in the process.
Rosalind and Robert Wiggins walked for 52 hours covering 70 miles over all the different terrains from rain forest to moon-like volcanic rock and scree, carrying the Tavistock Beaver Scout Banner and the Lamerton Primary School Bear.
Rosalind is a Macmillan nurse and Robert is assistant district commander for West Devon Scouts and chairman of governors at Lamerton Primary School.
Although exhausted, the couple were excited and jubilant about their achievement at reaching the summit of Africa's highest and the world's tallest freestanding mountain at 19,330 feet.
The money raised will go towards St Luke's 'Hospice at Home Project' which cares for people in their own homes.
The Wiggins trained for their trek by walking all over Dartmoor and the Brecon Beacons, climbing Snowdon, the South Turkish mountains and some coastal and forest walks in New Zealand.
