TAVISTOCk Cricket Club on Sunday week hosted their annual under 15s six-a-side competition. Clubs that attended were Bridestowe, Lewdown, Cornwood, Whitchurch and hosts Tavistock. The format of the tournament assured intense action from the start, each side batting for 5 overs in their innings and everyone bowling one over bar the wicket keeper. The tournament was set up into two groups of three and the two winners of the groups met in the final. Group A sorted out relatively comfortably for Cornwood as they sailed past both Tavistock sides to book their place in the final. Group B was a different matter. In this tight group Whitchurch emerged victors, but not before being run very close by a competitive Lewdown side who only missed out by 4 runs. In the final, Cornwood batted first. Goodliffe and his opening partner Kidd got off to a bit of a flyer by scoring 24 off the first 2 overs. Goodliffe reached the retirement figure of 25 which brought Dart to the wicket to carry on where his team-mate had left off. The dismissal of Kidd not long after Dart's arrival put the brakes on, but not for long as the Cornwood batsmen plundered 38 of the final 2 overs to record an intimidating score of 73 in their 5 overs. Whitchurch took the crease and Cornwood's plan to bowl a tight line was executed brilliantly by a well coached bowling attack. Whitchurch found runs hard to come by and in the opening 2 overs scored just 14 runs, losing 1 wicket. They only managed to record a further 25 from the remaining 3 overs. While Elliot and Hare were looking comfortable, but they not score briskly enough to prevent a deserved Cornwood victory. The presentation was made by Tavistock CC chairman Andy Jarman and hard working Tavistock CC clubman Mike Crocker. They commended all the sides for their conduct and the manner in which they played. Mike said they were all a credit to their clubs.
