STICKLEPATH and Okehampton Conservation Group — STOC — recently drew up its full programme of work to improve the environment which will keep members busy until the end of the year.

Tasks during the next three months include continuation work on the Celtic roundhouse at Cookworthy Forestry Centre, coppicing and general tree maintenance around Jacobstowe and Halwill Junction areas, as well as work nearer to home.

Last Friday saw the group again assisting the National Trust warden with tree maintenance near Fingle Bridge, while tomorrow (Friday) more vegetation clearance is scheduled for Skaigh Valley.

South Tawton Primary School has again secured STOC assistance on October 10 for undergrowth clearance. This will provide easier access to the wooded area behind the playing field.

A recent success story has been the Okehampton Parish Churchyard. Three separate days' work over the past two months has opened up parts of the grounds that had become badly overgrown.

For all these tasks, the Group meets every Friday at Finch Foundry field, Sticklepath at 10am. New comers are always most welcome.
