CORRECT conker guessing was rewarded with a prize of champagne and chocolates as part of a fund-raising event organised by an Okehampton business.
In support of BBC Radio Devon?s Chestnut Appeal, which is raising money and awareness of prostate cancer, Cheltenham and Gloucester?s Okehampton branch organised a special event which enabled it to contribute more than £160 to the cause.
Customers and passersby were invited to donate £1 to guess how many conkers were in a jar placed in the branch, with the closest guess winning a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates.
Janet Ware from Okehampton was the lucky winner of the competition with a correct guess of 289 conkers.
Chris Hurley, C&G?s Okehampton branch manager, said: ?When we heard about the Chestnut Appeal we decided we wanted to help. A competition seemed the perfect way to have some fun and raise some all-important funds for the charity.
?The event also meant we could spend some time chatting to customers which fitted perfectly with national Customer Service Week, an initiative C&G participated in throughout the country.?
The Chestnut Appeal is raising money to pay for a specialist unit in Plymouth.
