CLASHES between users of Tavistock?s Bedford Square prompted calls for a meeting between councillors and interested parties this week.
Tavistock Farmers? Market Association has sent the town council dates it wishes to book the square for regular fortnightly markets in 2003/2004.
But one Saturday next July clashes with the Lions Club, which wants to hold a car show on the square as part of Tavistock Carnival.
Cllr Judith Williams, at Tuesday?s meeting of the properties committee, said clashes between users was becoming a ?bone of contention?.
?I would like to see routine events that have been taking place on the square since it was created, such as the steam festival and the Lions carnival, hold priority,? she said.
John Brady, market reeve, said there needed to be a clear system or policy on the square which could be enforced.
Cllr Robin Pike said: ?It?s high time everyone with an interest in Bedford Square came in and had a chat with us.?
Councillors agreed bookings for the square should not be taken more than a year in advance.
Suggestions for a policy will be drawn up and a meeting held with square users as soon as possible.
