OKEHAMPTON town councillors last week gave their backing in principal to an open-air concert in Simmons Park next summer, following the resounding success of the town?s first Battle of the Bands competition earlier this year.
Okehampton businessman Richard Appleby is keen to capitalise on the success of the concerts by holding the grand finale of next year?s competition at Kempley Meadows in Simmons Park next August.
Mayor of Okehampton Tony Leech said he hoped the council would give its backing ?100 per cent? to the proposed event, bearing in mind how successful the contest had been at the Charter Hall earlier this year.
Members of the council?s parks committee meeting last week said in principle they supported the idea, subject to all the proper insurance and licences being obtained.
