THANKS to all the people involved in the Tavistock Volunteers Fair held on Friday, April 25 in Tavistock Town Hall. A huge thank you must go to all the volunteers who set up their stands and helped members of the public with advice and information. Areas displayed ranged from children and young people, arts and culture, older people, befriending, animal welfare, environment and outdoor, third world, charities and street pastors. Volunteers said that the event was excellent for networking, attracting closer shared working and also discovering new volunteers to help our community. Tavistock has a community spirit which is enriched with kindness and giving. It is right to celebrate and thank the hundreds of volunteers. Thanks to the organisers, Karen, Billie, Hannah and Jan from the CVS (Community Voluntary Service) and to my fellow West Devon county councillors Sanders, Ball and McInnes. Thanks to officers Simon Kitchen and Sonia Burgess. Readers who might be interested in volunteering can find out more information from our local library. Many people said that they would like to volunteer as they have made such wonderful friends and that they would be lonely if they didn't get out and about helping people. Some young volunteers have benefited when applying for employment. Perhaps there may be residents who have thought about volunteering — why not find out more and give it a go?
