EVER wanted to join a band but couldn't find the instrument? Okehampton folk music group The Wren Trust have the answer by starting a junk band in collaboration with Okehampton Community College.
Junk music is played on instruments made from things that have been thrown away, using simple rhythms and sounds to build up into a piece of music, as in the previous Blue Peter theme tune by the 'Yes No people.'
The idea is so simple, yet results can be stunning. The Wren Trust has helped such other bands to get started and some have been on programmes such as the Big Breakfast and Barrymore.
No musical experience is necessary to attend the sessions. The sessions start on September 13 from 6.30pm to 8pm in the Octagon Theatre and all instruments will be provided from Wren's own junk rig.
This project has been postponed because of foot and mouth so what better way to beat the blues than by beating out rhythms on a load of junk!
The workshops are free to attend and open to anyone over 13 years old.
