STUDENTS at Callington Community College celebrated outstanding examination results again last week as they received their long-awaited GCSE results.
Sixty-six per cent of students achieved five GCSE A*-C grades, including English and mathematics, which is an increase of 10% on last year, 87% of students achieved five or more A*-C grades, again exceeding all previous results at the college, and 21% of students gained A* or A grades.
The average capped point score per student has risen year on year and now stands at 346. A record number of students will continue their studies in the college's sixth form from September.
Students achieved highly across subjects this year, with many subjects seeing 100% pass rates. Mathematics, English, science and art were among the many curriculum areas in which excellent results were achieved.
Callington students have gained grades significantly above the national average.
Headteacher Gary Lobbett said: 'I am absolutely delighted by the achievements of our young people. The increasing number of students achieving A* and A grades across all subjects reflects the quality of teaching and consistency within the college.
'The progress we have made is the result of the dedication, commitment and hard work of our staff, the positive attitudes of our students and the high level of support from parents.
'Our young people have met and surpassed their challenging personal targets and aspirations.
'I am very proud of their achievements and of the teaching and support teams at the college who guide and encourage students throughout the year.
'These are again absolutely outstanding results. Congratulations to everyone involved.'
Mr Lobbett expressed congratulations to all students, but particularly recognised the achievements of Joe Gallacher and Ben Tamblyn, who both achieved 13 A* and A grades, Amelia Jones who achieved 12 A* and A grades, Rachel Buxton, Daniel Crowle, Sam Rogers, Alisdair Gascoyne, Isobel Jackson, Gemma Walker and Jasmine Millar who each achieved eleven A* and A grades and Rebecca James, Chloe Mitchell, Hattie Evans and Hetty Fruer-Denham who gained ten A* and A grades.
