TAVISTOCK Town Hall hosted a day of charity fundraising on Saturday in aid of various good causes, including the Grassroots Challenge appeal to support older people in need. Other charities involved included the Lions and Rotary Clubs of Tavistock, St Luke's Hospice SW, Children's Hospice SW, Mencap, TAMWED and Tavistock Museum.

The event, organised by Tavistock mayor Mandy Govier, was a huge success. Town hall manager Dave Evans said: 'The day has gone really well and I believe all the charities involved have enjoyed the day. We have managed to raise £310 for the Grassroots appeal alone, with £110 of that coming solely from our tombola which was kindly run by Mrs Ruby Ditcher. Great thanks go to her and all the many local businesses who were very kind with their donations.

'Special thanks must also go to Debbie Ashton, Lesley Reeves and Gabrielle Lewis from Tavistock Town Council, who all contributed to helping me organise the day on the mayor's behalf.'
