WEST Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox and Royal British Legion members last Friday officially opened the latest addition to facilities at Tavistock's Royal British Legion Club — a brand new lift. The £24,000 project to install the lift means the club's re-fitted first floor function suite is now fully accessible for the disabled and available for hire for weddings, parties and all types of events. Joining Mr Cox in declaring the lift officially operational were Peter Roberts, RBL chairman, and John Lashbrook, the RBL branch chairman. Mr Cox said it was a 'great pleasure' to see the result of the club's investment in its premises. 'I am delighted to be here for the opening of this wonderful new facility for the Royal British Legion — it's a very fine achievement by all concerned,' he said. The lift was constructed by local company Eurolifts and the project was completed by Tavistock builder Terry Cundy. Jack May, Tavistock RBL branch secretary, said: 'The lift has taken many months to complete, from the initial planning stage to the finished item, and has been installed in order to comply with Government legislation on disabled access. 'The branch is most grateful to all the contractors involved for the speed and efficiency with which they worked, and indeed to Terry Lowe, club chairman, who oversaw the project from beginning to end, on behalf of the branch.'
