Crediton 2

Tavistock 3

TAVISTOCK squash team's second fixture of the new season turned out to be a close encounter, with Tavistock taking a well earned victory.

Without their captain, the team were grateful to Peter Walshe for standing in as replacement.

Unfortunately, he was drawn against a strong and fit number five, and although Peter was able to show his superior technique he had no answer to this, losing 3-0.

Playing at number four for Tavistock, Peter Middleton had a roller-coaster match with Paul Jannon of Crediton.

Pete took the first game comfortably, only to concede the next two to Paul.

Pete, however, rallied in a closely fought fourth game and kept the momentum going in the fifth to take his match and level the scores.

Next on court, Colin Grice for Tavistock found himself one game down against Richard Belcher of Crediton.

However, Colin's rallying ability had taken its toll on Richard who was unable to sustain the pace — Colin took the next three games.

The second string match between Tim Wallis of Tavistock and Roger Willcocks of Crediton was an evenly contested match with both players stretched to their limits. Tim came out the winner 3-1, giving the team their first victory of the season.

Finally, the first string match between Andy Gauler of Tavistock and Mick Wells of Crediton, turned out to be a close, five-game match.

Andy, playing some accurate forehand and backhand volleys, put his opponent under constant pressure, but Mick, with his superior technique, came out the eventual winner.
