I WAS interested to read Mr Newell's letter on council tax payments in last week's Times but would like to clarify the position.
West Devon Borough Council has always tried to support the sustainability of its local post offices and one way of doing this is to issue payment cards as the standard payment method for council tax payers. These cards can then be used at any post office to make payment.
Council tax payers receive a payment card unless they request to pay by another method such as direct debit. On occasion there is a cross over between a payment card being issued and the set up of a different method of payment.
I am unable to comment on any specific account and have therefore arranged for a full explanation to be sent to Mr Newell direct. I am, however, grateful to Mr Newell for highlighting this matter and would like to reassure your readers that the borough council is always willing to respond to any enquiry. A call to 01822 813600 is all it takes to resolve a query.
