DEVON'S newest string ensemble will be performing at Fairplace Church this weekend.

The Mandolin Orchestra of Devon (MOOD), set up by Wren Music last autumn, is holding a concert on Saturday, March 10 directed by Matt Norman.

An innovative and entertaining musician, Matt explores traditional and contemporary English music as a performer, arranger, composer and songwriter.

MOOD is open to players of all sizes of mandolin, from piccolo to mando-bass, as well as closely-related instruments such as the bouzouki.

The idea is to bring players together to meet each other, learn specific mandolin repertoire, and to develop technique and expertise while providing a relatively rare opportunity for mandolin players to play together.

They will be joined by special guests from the Dartmoor Pixie Band Rob Murch on banjo and Mark Bazeley on guitar and melodeon.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, with free admission for under 18s.
