AROUND Christmas time, we all need a bit of fresh air and time away from the confines of the house and loads of food and family, so the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) is offering people the chance to take part in a free guided walk.
The charity, set up to preserve the traditional type of Dartmoor pony, is offering free guided walks at Bellever, near Postbridge, suitable for children and adults of all abilities.
The walks are a perfect opportunity to have a friendly, informal and not too hard walk, while giving your body a boost and learning more about Dartmoor, its ponies, archaeology, flora and fauna.
The walks are free — the only requirement is a minimum of six people.
The DPHT runs the walks all year round. Maxine Hey from Abbotkerswell, whose family went on a walk this year, said: 'It's a magical moor experience — the entire family loved the natural beauty, further enhanced when we caught sight of the ponies grazing the moorland, helping to protect the environment.'
