THE second Tavistock Cheese Fair was hailed a great success by organisers, with an estimated 3,000 people attending the two-day event. The fair, in Tavistock Town Hall last Saturday and Sunday, gave people the chance to meet producers and sample various cheeses, along with local wines, ales and cider. There were 21 cheese producers, plus two local wine companies, two ales and one cider. A wide range of West Country artisan cheeses were represented, including cows?, goats?, ewes? and Romanian buffalos?. A jazz band provided entertainment for the event, which was organised by Gary and Elise Jungheim, of Country Cheeses, and sponsored by Cropwell Bishop ? producers of a blue Stilton. Those who attended the free event were able to buy cheeses afterwards at the Country Cheeses shop, which remained open on both days. LEFT: Cheese producer Jamie Montgomery with Country Cheeses?
