GOLFERS swung into action to take part in a charity golf day for West Devon children's charity CHICKS recently.

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) hosted its annual Golf Day at Trethorne Golf Club, raising thousands of pounds for disadvantaged children.

The event was sponsored by the Firewatch Group for the third year running and 24 teams competed on the day.

The event raised more than £7,000, which will go towards funding the free respite breaks CHICKS provides for disadvantaged children from across the UK at the retreats in Brentor and Par in Cornwall.

CHICKS fundraiser Mick Ryan said: 'This year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and aim to provide breaks for 1,200 children.

'If we reach this goal we will have helped 10,000 children since we began in 1992.

'Events like our annual golf day help us raise the vital funds we need to provide the breaks.

'I would like to say a personal thank you to our many supporters who entered teams and donated such wonderful prizes, the Firewatch Group for sponsoring the event and also Vospers for sponsoring the hole in one competitions.

'Special thanks to Carol Reip and all at Trethorne Golf Club for hosting such a wonderful day and we look forward to next year's event.'
