TAVISTOCK companies are coming up trumps for charity with a series of donations to Plymouth?s premier drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
Broadreach House is the focus for this year?s big business community challenge ? and the challenge is certainly a big one!
Teams from companies and organisations including Lloyds Bank plc, Ginsters, the Child Support Agency (CSA), Bailey?s and Learning Skills are volunteering to refurbish rooms throughout Broadreach ? in the space of a single day.
The idea for the ?Big Strong Boys?-style challenge came after organisers saw one of the shows and thought how appropriate it would be to create differently themed rooms in the outreach centre.
Zoë Gerrish comes from Tavistock and is part of the ten-strong CSA team: ?Basically, we have a mammoth task and no money to complete it?, she said.
?We pretty much have to blag everything we need ? and everyone?s being absolutely marvellous.
?We?ve had no umming and aahing, no empty promises, everyone has been very keen to help and really it?s just been a question of how much we need and where do we want it delivered!?
Zoë and her team have been set the task of redecorating Broadreach?s smoking and tea room ? in an African theme.
Zoë said: ?Travis Perkins have supplied the paint, Rob Moule has given us the basics we need, such as sandpaper and brushes, and Natural Nomads have donated some lovely bits and pieces to decorate with.
?The main problem as we see it is the Victorian style of Broadreach ? it?s an old house and there are lots of fancy mouldings around the walls so we will have to deal with those.
?It?s going to be a big challenge but a lot of fun. We are really looking forward to it.?
The grand redecoration takes place on May 13.
