Devon D division Lustleigh v Chagford AFTER finishing second for four of the last six seasons Chagford needed a win on the last game of the season to clinch the title and the much elusive promotional place. Away at Lustleigh on a very lively pitch Chagford got of to a great start with a fine display of pace bowling from Josh Rankin (6 for 22) and Duncan Christophers(2-20). One of the high points of the season has been the side?s excellent fielding with Dell Owen adding a spectacular brace of slip catches to add to the team?s tally. John Jenkins (2 for 12) playing in his last game for the club, started as he always does, putting the ball right where he wants it and finished of the tail enders with a couple of Stuart Lord stumpings. Lustleigh were all out for 74 but hit back straight after the break with two wickets in the first over. However Colin Mortimore scored a quick fiery 34 and skipper Jerry Christophers added a solid 27 that took his side to victory and the league. Chagford lost the first two games of the season and with the bad weather wiping out a number of games, won all their last ten matches to pip Dartington and Totnes and other West Devon sides Hatherleigh, Bridestowe and Lewdown. It has been an outstanding squad effort with contributions from all round by the Chagford team.
