GLADYS Wood celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday with family and friends at Abbotsfield Hall Nursing Home where she has lived for the last three years.
The centenarian was thrown a party by staff which include her daughter, Joy Davis, who works at the home part-time. She also has a son, Stuart.
Mrs Wood, who originated from London, moved to Devon nine years ago and previously lived at Gunnislake with her daughter and son-in-law.
With a very happy disposition, she has retained her ?excellent sense of humour? and puts her mental fitness down to the ?first 26 years of her life as a vegetarian?.
She worked for the Gaslight and Coke fuel company in London. Mrs Wood has always enjoy playing the organ and is a great lover of classical music.
?Gladys is always smiling and she is very happy at Abbotsfield,? said Mrs Davis. ?My mother-in-law Janet Davis is also living there and is 18 months away from her 100th birthday.?
