ONE of West Devon's top hotels is holding a party and fete to celebrate its 200th anniversary.

On September 7 1810 the first stone was laid at Hotel Endsleigh, near Milton Abbot. This event was commemorated with a stone carving above the fountain in the stable block courtyard.

To mark the event Hotel Endsleigh are holding a traditional tea party and country fête in the hotel gardens on Sunday September 12 between 2pm and 5pm.

General manager Helen Costello says the hotel plans to create a 'memory book' of items connected to Endsleigh's past.

Helen said: 'We would love to hear from those who over the years have had any connection to the house and gardens. Please don't hesitate to send in any memorabilia you may have or bring it with you on the day.

'We would love to make copies of photographs and notes of other items in order to create a memory book for all to enjoy.'The day will see frolics and fun in the formal gardens that include a rose walk, a little shell grotto, a dell of monstrous Gunera, walks along the riverside and huge stately trees.
