A RECORD number of people attended the weekend's activities in Tavistock as part of the town's Carnival. A total of 31 entries were at the baby show on Saturday, July 12 — the best number of entrants seen by organisers, the Lions Club of Tavistock, for many years. The Saturday was finished off with the Summer Sounds music festival at Tavistock Town Hall, which saw local bands including Orangutan Wheelbarrow, Skywalkers and Jamo Hope. On Sunday, July 13, organisers staged the Fun Day in the Meadows, featuring the crowning of the Carnival Princess, by Emma Barton, who played Honey Mitchell in TV soap Eastenders. Steve Grummitt, president of the Lions Club, said: 'The weather was perfect and we saw the best turn out ever in the Meadows. 'It was a packed afternoon and there was lots of entertainment on offer including rides, a dog show and a bouncy castle. It couldn't have gone better.'
