I WOULD like to thank A J Arnold for the letter (October 25) about lighting in Market Street car park in Okehampton.
Both West Devon Borough Council and Waitrose — who manage the car park — work hard to ensure that lighting is only used when absolutely necessary. However, a part which controls the lighting in the car park has needed replacing. This means that the lights could either be left on or off until the new part arrived.
In this instance they opted to temporarily keep the lights on to ensure the safety of car park users until the new part was installed. The new lights are now operational and can be switched off when the car park is not in use.
