DARTMOOR National Park Authority has teamed up with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) to raise money and fund repairs to the popular Nun’s Cross bridleway south of Princetown.

The repairs will be completed as part of the Mend our Mountains campaign.

The spectacular ancient path in the high reaches of Dartmoor, used by 18,000 walkers and 6,000 mountain bikers annually, has rapidly eroded, threatening the precious beat bog which surrounds it.

This is a four kilometre project which will cost around £40 to £50 per metre.

Andrew Watson, head of recreation and access at Dartmoor National Park Authority said: ‘Dartmoor National Park Authority is delighted to be working with the BMC on the Mend our Mountains campaign. This provides a fantastic opportunity for everyone who has a passion for our most spectacular landscapes to contribute to our work and help us to look after these special places.

‘The BMC’s Campaign will enable people to put something back into Dartmoor. Without public support we will not be able to carry out urgently needed repairs to one of our most popular trails across the high moorland, used by many thousands of walkers and cyclists every year.’
