A GROUP of students from Bristol University visited Okehampton training camp last weekend, for a training session to prepare them for a yomp across the Falkland Islands. The students, who were all members of the university?s officer training corps, are planning to visit many of the historic battlefields of the Falklands on their route, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict. During the weekend they did a 55-mile hike across Dartmoor as preparation for the challenge. Army spokesman David Harris said in many ways the terrain of Dartmoor was very similar to that of the Falklands Islands. ?This exercise reminds us once again that the Falkland Islands conflict was won on the tors of Dartmoor,? he said.
