SUNDAY saw the 47th Annual Fairway Open Water swim, held off the Exmouth coast. The new four and half mile course saw the first overall win for an Exmouth swimmer since 1963.
Training partners Olly White, an English Channel swimmer, and Cameron Carpenter-Warren, who attends Kelly College, provided a tight and exciting finish to this rough and gruelling event.
Cameron, swimming the Fairway for the first time, lead from the start, but Olly, who has won 'first Exmouth swimmer in' for the past ten years, made a well timed burst with 150 metres to go to clinch the title.
The race attracted swimmers from as far away as Wigan, many of whom are former Channel swimmers, or currently training up for attempts. All money raised by the event is going to 'the Help for Heroes' charity.
