Tavistock U13s 15

Wadebridge Camels U13s 19

DESPITE desperate attacking play right up to the final whistle Tavistock could not quite overthrow Wadebridge in this entertaining game.

Tavistock played down the slope in the first half, camping solidly on the Wadebridge try-line but sound defence from the visitors meant they were denied several good attempts.

The first try came from Jack Hodges, Tavistock?s number eight, who, from a well worked rolling maul involving the whole pack, was shoved over the line.

Tries by Doug Watts and Ewen McCall coming from well worked back moves saw Tavistock come close to the Wadebridge total.

Tavistock, having been beaten by almost 40 points previously by the Cornish team, showed just how much effort they had been putting into training with this result.

Man of the match: Darren White.

This Sunday home to Exeter Chiefs confirmed as an 11am kick-off. Squad meet at Sandy Park at 10am.

IN what was a closely fought contest on a heavy pitch, the main difference between these sides was the handling skills of the Wadebridge backs who managed to make the ball stick to their hands. Time after time Tavistock gained possession only to see a pass get knocked-on or go to ground, though despite these setbacks the team maintained their composure and effort.

Wadebridge were awarded a penalty try when a last-gasp tackle by Lawson was adjudged ? a little harshly ? as being too high.

Wadebridge had territorial advantage for much of the half and eventually broke through to bring the score to 12-0 at half-time.

The second half saw Tavistock?s forwards play well at the set scrums with good breaks by Friend and newcomer Frost, but a run by Wadebridge?s backs on the left could not be kept out despite good tackles by Harris and Thompson and a third try was scored.
