THE Lamerton branch of the Royal British Legion marked a special day in its history on Saturday with a celebration meal at the village's Blacksmith's Arms.
The branch was formed on November 29, 1933 by a local man called Richard Sloley.
Membership in those days was strong and although it has fluctuated over the years, now stands at 29 — a good figure, considering the size of the village.
The friendly group meets regularly at the Blacksmith's Arms, where it also holds well-attended functions — members appreciate the hospitality of landlord Robert White.
A spokesman for the branch said: 'We would like to thank all the businesses and the people of the Lamerton area for their support over many years on our Poppy collection days.'
The branch is seeking new members to help carry on the work it does for the armed forces. Meetings are every three months, with an annual meeting held in November. For more information call secretary Colin Stephens on 01822 615210.
