LIFTON Cottage Garden Society and WI's 28th annual horticultural show was held in Lifton Church Hall recently.
Approximately 400 exhibits were shown, the most for several years. The vegetable, fruit and flower classes were of an excellent standard and the children's classes caused much interest, particularly the primary school-age classes for an animal mask made from a paper plate, a painted stone, edible necklace, sugar mice and an allotment in a seed tray, which won best children's exhibit.
The handicraft class, 'Something new from something old', attracted some beautiful items and along with the rest of the handicraft, floral art, cookery and photography classes, gave plenty to interest the public.
President Anthony Phillips thanked all who entered. Cups were presented by Lifton Primary School headteacher Kui Holmes, who was presented with a corsage by Daisy Wilby.
Mrs Holmes said a garden was being created at the school to encourage the children to grow vegetables, so that they would see first-hand how food was produced.
