OPMs . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1
Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1
TAVISTOCK men's hockey team may well have cost themselves the South West One League title with this undisciplined display away to OPMs.
Now three points behind the unbeaten leaders Truro, Tavistock must not only beat them this Saturday but make up a six-goal difference with just two matches to play.
Despite missing key midfield players on Saturday, Tavistock started brightly and pinned the home side in their own half for the first 15 minutes.
Tavistock finally found the net when Jason Lovett and Carl Jeffery combined well to score.
OPMs fought back and Tavistock were reduced to ten men when Jeffrey questioned some of the umpire's decisions and was 'sin-binned' for ten minutes.
A more even second half again swung in OPM's favour when Tavistock once more saw a player 'sin-binned' for arguing with the umpire.
This time it was Joe Hess who put unnecessary pressure on his team.
After some close calls Tavistock conceded a goal from open play, but held the scores level until back to 11 men.
A penalty corner at the full time whistle almost saw Tavistock snatch a vital win, but a strong shot from Kevin Lethbridge produced a fine save from the OPM's keeper.
The final 1-1 scoreline, even away from home, was two points dropped by Tavistock rather than a point won.
This Saturday: Tavistock v Truro, home, 2.30pm.
