THE fourth Horrabridge Football Club/Football Twinning Club annual invitation six-a-side football tournament took place on Saturday with 22 teams taking part.
There was a wet start to the morning but the rain did not dampen enthusiasm.
The group matches were all close and well refereed thanks to the six referees who gave their time for the day: Rob Aitken, Sandy Compton, Steve Hopley, Terry Oats, Richard Robinson and Chris Thorn.
Yelverton progressed to the Champions Cup quarter-finals after finishing second in their group but went out to one of the pre-tournament favourites Civil Service Sports and Leasure.
While other local teams Horrabridge II, Bere Alston, and P&D Drilling progressed to the Supplementary Cup quarter-finals. Horrabridge then went out in the semi-finals to Ivybridge on penalties, but P&D Drilling won the final on penalties against Ivybridge.
The Champions Cup semi-finalists were four of the pre-tournament favourites: Ernesettle, Civil Service , Breakwater Breakers ,and Plympton, with Ernesettle retaining the trophy which the team won last year as Plymouth Parkway, with a 1-0 defeat of Breakwater Breakers.
Horrabridge also expressed thanks to Toshiba, Brittany Ferries, Elfordleigh Hotel, Fitzsimmons Butchers, London Inn, Londis Stores, the Barber Shop, and Ayres Sports for their sponsorship of the draw prizes and trophies .
