MORE than 300 women are taking part in a midnight walk this Saturday to raise money for Derriford?s oncology department and Primrose breast cancer unit. A group of Tavistock women, known as the ?Tavistock Star Trekkers?, decided they wanted to stage their own event in Tavistock to correspond with the Moonwalk in London, which also raises money for cancer care. Bev Rodgers, one of the organisers, said: ?It?s phenomenal the response so far.? But the trekkers still appeal for women to grab their bras and join them for the walk which starts at midnight from Morrison?s. From there they will follow a route around Horrabridge, Walkhampton, Dousland and Yelverton, back to Horrabridge and through the back roads to Tavistock. Bev Rodgers said: ?Everyone is so enthusiastic about it, they want to go for it as much as they can. On the night everyone is having lit up bras. One woman even has flashing false teeth.? The 14-mile walk will be started by Eric Drabble and Dr Pat Macleod from Derriford?s oncology department and the Primrose breast cancer unit. If anyone would like to take part in this event then contact either Pam Thurgood on 01822 615323 or Bev Rodgers on 07974 616627 before Saturday morning.
