A YOUNG BOY from Bere Alston celebrated his eighth birthday last week in a significant way. Jonathan Maddock, who attends Bere Alston Primary School, was baptised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by his father, Jeremy Maddock, on January 28. Members of the family took part in the service at LDS chapel, Mannamead Road in Plymouth. Jonathan?s sister, Elizabeth, 9, played some of the music and sang a duet with Jonathan accompanied by their aunt, Laura Durston. His mother, Fiona, gave a brief talk. Mormons believe infant baptism is unnecessary, but children can be baptised when they reach eight and understand its significance.
